WordPress Themes, by Me!

on: Jul/17/06 and its been viewed 9,501 times

I released 4 WordPress themes this past week. You can find them all on the WordPress Theme site - right here. The decision to do this was based on how much the blogging community and WordPress community have influenced me and taught me so many new things - it was time to give back!

Hmm… maybe I felt that the WordPress theme site needed a more feminine touch?? Perhaps more masculine theme next time? Or not. Heh.

Updates…

11.21.06
A quick thank you to Amy for very nicely writing in to let me know that at least one of my themes is not rendering correctly in IE7. (and a big ‘thanks for nothing’ to the guy who NOT so nicely emailed me to let me know the same thing. Pfft). That verison of IE did not exist when I created the themes - so obviously they could not be tested in it :) I do plan on making updates to all of my available themes within the week - just as soon as I can fit it in to an already hectic schedule. Thanks again, Amy!

12.21.06
A couple of quick updates:
I released the Melissa Theme today.

I’ve also provided update/fixes for the following themes so they render correctly in IE7:
Thoughts Theme
Butterfly Theme
WaterLily Theme

Over the past year, I have released 8 FREE WordPress themes for use by the WordPress Community. My themes can be found at the WordPress Themes site located, specifically they can be found here. The themes are widget compatible - allowing the user to take advantage of the great WordPress Widgets. I have updated a few of those themes - so if you’re using the theme and have found a bug in one of them, please make sure you are using the latest available version of the theme by downloading the theme from the WordPress Themes site. If you still feel that there is a true bug in the theme, please do contact me and I’ll see about getting it all fixed up and updated on the WordPress Themes site.

Unfortunately, because of time constraints - I am unable to provide support for the use of the themes, aside from true theme bugs that may be found. I am not able to provide you lessons, via email, on how to use widgets, how to use WordPress, how to manipulate the CSS or how to change out the graphics in the themes. The WordPress Codex provides some excellent resources and information on how to manipulate themes, widgets and the like.

I also do not accept requests for changes to the themes - if you are interested in using the theme, but want it in a different color, or a different graphic theme - please visit my Design Order Form to place an order for a custom blog design.

The themes are provided ‘as is’. I have not provided any PSD, or layered graphic files, in any of the themes I have designed, and this is a decision I made in regards to the release of free themes for the community to use. My reasons for releasing themes for the WordPress community to use revolves around how much I have learned and gained from being a part of the community, myself - and I wanted to give a little back. The themes were released in good faith that users would keep the original credit back to me, as the original coder/designer of the theme - I respectfully request that the credit remain on your site, even if you’ve made modifications to the theme, itself.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy the themes I’ve released this year - and themes I release in the future.

I totally love your Flowery theme but it’s completely broken in IE7 :( Looks great in Firefox though. Any chance you know why it’s broken in IE7?

  3. Lisa
    2:26 am on July 18th, 2006

Hi Audrey - Currently IE7 Beta 3 (IE7b3) is pre-release software. My themes are currently designed and coded for current version (not future versions) of software… and since I won’t download any of the IE betas - one can only speculate as to why something doesn’t work in IE7b3

When IE7 has released a final, non-beta version - - I’ll check whether the themes are working correctly or not. If not, I’ll update.

    Thanks!

Usually (I say 90% of the time), the reason something is broke in IE7 is because IE6 and below has been broken for so many years. We (as designers) have to apply hacks to get something - that works in every other standards-compliant browser - to work in IE.

Once IE7 is released to the public (via automatic update, no doubt), we will see a LOT of broken sites out there. Not just blogs…but lots of commercial sites, too.

Exactly right, Wench. IE7 is going to cause monumental migraines across the net for a good while. :-?

A little bug in the butterfly theme. When you’re reffering to the blog URL in the title div, you should use bloginfo(’url’); call to get the correct URL for the blog. Right now you’re using just /index.php which will probably be wrong for a lot of sites.

Otherwise very well done. Keep up the good work.

I love the butterfly theme, and it would be perfect for me to use for my school’s PTA blog since our mascot is a Monarch butterfly. However, our colors are blue and white — can I change the theme so that the overall color is blue (darker blue, light blue or white, etc.)?

    Thanks so much,

I want to thank you for your beautiful themes. I downloaded your Thoughts theme and used it as the base for my Dutch blog at http://www.mijnblijdehart.info (I made quite a lot of adjustments to make it fit the design of the book I wrote but I’m sure you’ll recognize it from the structure!)

    Lisa,
I’m stopping by to say thank you for the beautiful templates. Most of the templates at WP that caught my eye had your name on it. I ended up in a jam - just couldn’t decide which one to choose because I loved them all. Eventually, I settled for the one that just wouldn’t let me go - Purplish is just FABULOUS :)>-
    Once again,
Thank you for adding an apologetic feminine touch. Keep up your great work.

    Hi folks.

An update has been made to my Waterlily theme. You can download the most recent version of that theme here: Waterlily v.2.5

The theme now renders nicely in IE7, as well as all the rest.

I also made some significant improvements and changes to some of the main template files, changes include:

***Category pages show show titles, excerpts and comment count on the posts - all category pages have “Currently Browsing - *Category Name*” listed at the top so the visitor knows where they are, exactly.

***Monthly pages show show titles, excerpts and comment count on the posts - all monthly pages have “Currently browsing posts made in *Month/Year*” listed at the top.

***Search results page show titles, excerpts and comment count on the posts.

    ***404 Error page included.

Some tweaks and modifications to the CSS stylesheet to include some additional generic and standard styling - including styling for the calendar feature that I hadn’t included in the original release.

Comments are also now displayed in alternate colors (setting one comment apart from the other).

    Cheers, and enjoy!

GREAT themes! I started off using the Melissa one, but have totally modified the css so that it’s unrecognisable, however credit is intact and I plan on doing a post next week about all your themes. I never realised till popping in today that until recently, my mum was also using one of your themes on her site at my recommendation because I loved it! She still switches between the purplish one and the one she’s using now…

I absolutely adore your themes - it;s so wonderful to have more elegant themes available!! Thoughts is my favorite, by far - such an awesome layout! Only problem I’m running in to (other than wanting to stare at my blog all day long, due to your theme!) is that when I add widgets, for example, text items, the sidebg.jpg doesn’t show; so all the new sidebar items have a bottom ‘border’ but no top or middle. It’s minor, I’m sure - but I wasn’t sure if you were aware of it. Either way - FANTASTIC job on these themes; I LOVE them!

    Hi,

You’ve done some wonderful work with your themes. Having read through your comments on this site and themes.wordpress.net you made mention of your intentions to update several of your themes that were incompatible with IE7. It seems that you did indeed follow through on this with the Waterlily theme. However, it appears that the Flowery theme is still suffering from IE7 issues. I, and I’m sure others as well, would greatly appreciate it if you could find the time to fix this particular theme for IE7.

    Thanks,

Thank you, Riptuer - I’m very happy to hear you like the themes. I do intend on updating the Flowery theme soon, when time permits. I do realize there are IE7 issues in that display, as it was designed/released prior to IE7. It should be a simple fix - when I do find the time, I will update. thanks much!
