on: Oct/22/07 and its been viewed 24,880 times

Just heard from my publisher today, and he said… “The first date of availability is next Monday (10/29). It usually takes a couple weeks before it’s on store shelves. Amazon orders will probably ship 11/2…

So, we’ve confirmed…at long last, the official WordPress For Dummies book is reality and will be on the shelf at your local bookstore in no time! As well as Amazon.com, Barnes and Nobel, Books-A-Million and, of course, Dummies.Com and Wiley.Com.

The WordPress For Dummies E-Book can also be purchased from Wiley directly.

I’m really excited about the release and am very proud of it. I believe that all my hard work in the last year has resulted in something that readers will find helpful and resourceful when it comes to the use of the most popular blogging software on the ‘net!

I’m not going to clog my blog with endless promotions of the book (people willl argue that I should.. but, reallly.. Zzzzzzzz!), but if you buy the book – you have my genuine, heartfelt THANKS! If you read the book – drop me a line and let me know, I would really like to hear from you.

Now, back to the real world of work n’ such – - I have about 20 new design projects to add to the portfolio AND I need to get a workout in tonight, as well….time for some SERIOUS time management!

I am so excited, I’m recommending it to all of the Dummies I know!!

Part of me wants you to write about it every day, and post pictures of it on those special “For Dummies” turny displays they have right as you walk into every bookstore known to mankind, but the other part of me thinks if you actually took photos of it in stores, I would probably gag, and maybe even throw up a little bit in my mouth. That’s a lot of self love, and I don’t think you need to do that. Your book has legs, man, it’ll run all around the store and sell itself!

I do, however, solemnly swear to walk into every single bookstore and spin that For Dummies rack like crazy, point and smile and say really loud “I KNOW AN AUTHOR!!!” Because you know, being an Author, that’s a title you should definitely change your business cards to include.

I’m sure you have your new business cards on order though, right?

    ;)):*

I’m so proud of you, truly I am. You made it all the way here without chugging one single martini.

    YOU ROCK!

No martinis… but we’ll just not mention the vast quantities of scotch, ok? :o

And thank you for being proud of me *big hugs* – that means so much.. you were such a great big source of support through it all! Well, you… and the scotch.. but..shhh. ;)

I’m hoping it has legs! It’s WordPress, afterall… of course it has legs! :D

@Missy – thank you very much. Originally, the book was dated for release in the late summer months of ‘07. However, with the pending release of the latest version of WordPress 2.3 and the great additions they made to the platform with that release, the decision was made to wait – - make sure the book reflected the 2.3-ness and make the book release after the 2.3 release… so yea, it was pushed back a tad bit. Cheers!

@Dave – yes, one of the reasons this book was delayed (it was supposed to be done in the late summer months) was because we chose to wait for the 2.3 release so the info in the book would be up to date – - so, the sort answer is yes :) Thanks!

Congratulations on a well needed book, and one that I’m sure will soon be a classic. We use Wordpress for many reasons such as it is a very well written software program. The way that it’s set up it’s easy to install and manage, even if it’s your first time. Plus there is just something unique about a Wordpress blog. It’s almost like you can sense that the author is using Wordpress on their site when you first visit their blog because there is something special about viewing a Wordpress blog. Kind of like eating something for the first time and immediately loving it, but not knowing quite why, and then learning from the chef that they added a secret ingredient, like nutmeg. Wordpress blogs just seem to have a little bit of ‘nutmeg’ in them when you read them. Another reason why we picked Wordpress is because the author(s) of the software seem to have a good sense of humor. When you’re at the main Wordpress site you feel at home and among friends, even if it’s your first visit there. You can tell that Wordpress is designed well because any software writer who sprinkles a little humor in their site, must enjoy what they’re doing, and it certainly shows in every Wordpress blog on the net ;)

I just finished reading the book, and it will now be my desk-side companion reference. Thank you so much for writing WordPress for Dummies.(*) I reviewed it on my blog, as well as doing a review on Amazon. Even though it was full of techie stuff, I loved the subtle humor infused into it. Great job! ^:)^

Lisa – Just got done reading your book. It was awesome…perfect for the novice like myself trying to start a blog in WP! Thank you very much for all your insight. Also have checked out some of the blogs you have designed and I’m in awe of your work. You are truly talented.

I do have a question though. I have very minimal web design work. I’ve built two sites one of which is no longer online and awful and http://www.HomesAtUF.com which is my latest attempt. I made that site with tables and only have minimal experience with CSS mainly for formatting, etc. I was wondering if there were any books or resources you recommend for someone like myself trying to design my own WP blog using CSS? I would certainly hire you if I could afford it but thats not in the cards at the moment plus I think building it will be half the fun.

Webduck – thank you very much for taking the time to review the book on Amazon.com, and for dropping by here to let me know that you enjoyed the book. That is very much appreciated!

People who know me claim that I have no sense of humor, so I’m glad to hear that you found humor in some of my writing! ha! :)

Steve – thank you, kindly! I’m thrilled to hear that you found it helpful…. if you wanted to leave a review on Amazon.com about your experience with the book, that would be great, too – - every little bit helps!

I took a look at your HomesAtUF.com site, and for someone who, admittedly, has minimal design experience, it’s a nicely done site. You are headed in the right direction, however.. that is, getting away from table-based designs and moving forward into CSS-based. It’s not an easy move. I did a post about my move from tables to CSS.. and man, I used to LOVE my tables. I didn’t think anything could tear me away from the comfort of table design… until I really started to learn and understand CSS. Now I wouldn’t touch a table unless it had a gourmet meal on it. haha :)

Here’s a list of a few books that I still reference and keep within hands reach for CSS reference and resource:

CSS Mastery by Andy Budd, Cameron Moll and Simon Collison

The CSS Anthology by Rachel Andrew

The CSS Cookbook by Christopher Schmitt and Dan Cederholm.

    Good luck and thanks!

Steve, one of the best books on that topic is called “Spring into HTML and CSS”. The ISBN for it is 0-13-185586-7. If you’re by a library they should have a copy of it.

It was my pleasure to help Steve. The library should have a lot of good CSS books. Another good one is called ‘Stylin with CSS’. Oh and just a heads up – the ‘CSS Cookbook’ mentioned above is the old version. There is a brand new (2007) version now available ;)

Guess what! I actually went out looking for this book today! My mom found an ad for it and asked if I wanted it, and I said YES!!! I love wordpress, but I can’t figure out how to code a theme and make a lot of things work, so I make my layouts and have someone else code it for me and do all the dirty work! But I couldn’t find it! They were all out at BAM so I think my mom is going to get it from Amazon…lol I can’t wait to read it! It’s awesome that you were just asked to write a book! LOL!!!

    Hi Lisa

I am interested in buying the eBook version of your book. I clicked on the Wiley eBook link in
your post and there was an error. I then
searched Wiley for the eBook version and only
    the paperback version was shown.

Is it available? Also, if it is will I be
able to print any pages? I’d find it too
difficult to read it on the computer at the
same time as actioning the information on the
    same computer.

Hope to hear from you. Thanks.

I’m a bit behind in catching up on my comment responses – - I’m sorry!! :D I’ve been slightly buried.. so here I go:

@eMac – thank you very much – Dino is a great guy, glad to hear he sent you over!

@天涯舞草 – I’m unsure if Wiley Publishing is planning on a Chinese translation of the book, I don’t *think* they are, unfortuantely.

@Steve W – Thank you for dropping by! I’m so glad to hear you’re finding it helpful and BEST of luck with the development of your new site using WordPress as a CMS. Coffee is an absolute must!! :)

@Judi – In the beginning, I did understand that Wiley was putting out an e-book version, and yet I have not seen any evidence of that on their website, or elsewhere. There is, however, a MobiPocket version of the book available – I found it by doing a quick Google Search for “WordPress For Dummies EBook”. It is available at Books on Board and you can download a free MobiPocket reader – and read about this reader – here. obipocket works well with PCs and handhelds; it is the only reliable solution for Blackberries and is normally a good solution for Palm OS. Reading further, however – it does look like the print function is disabled for this title. Hope that helps!
