Total Conflict of Interest

on: Jan/16/04 and its been viewed 681 times

This week has been a pretty good one, as far as my graphic design and web hosting business goes. I obtained two new contracts that will keep me busy for the next few weeks.

The first one will be pretty easy - I’ve been hired to do a custom blog design for a software company based out of Portland. I’m supposed to make it look clean, edgy and technical - - but need to throw a bit of a corporate espionage theme in there for good measure. Anyone have a good idea on what the web presence of corporate espionage is? I’m thinking Martha Stewart — but think the guys from the software company would probably disagree!

The other is from my boss, Tina. She is starting her own Assisted Living Facility for the Elderly. They have the thing just about built and she’s ready to start marketing it and taking new patients. She wants the full website (non blog) and hosting, which is good. And I’m also doing brochures, business cards, flyers and marketing material for her. That’s more than I generally do, as I usually stop at the site design and hosting. I can do the other stuff, and have the capability of doing it all right here at home with all these whirring gadgets and machines we have scattered from room to room. Scanners, color laserjets, photo printers, etc, etc, etc, - I guess I don’t know why I don’t offer that service regularly. I think it’s because I find it putzy and boring, and I’d much rather stick with the web & site design and hosting stuff.

Be that as it may, for Tina - she’s getting the whole package. Now here’s a conflict of interest if I’ve ever heard of one - - - she gave me the (paid) day off today so that I could spend time on her project and at least have the site up and going by next week. Tina’s boss thinks that I just took a vacation day. They’re all used to it - - they all know I own and run my own business from home and sometimes I have taken vacation days from work when I need to work on a few projects, or one big one. But this time, Tina isn’t making me use my vacation time to take this day off.

Personally, it’s no skin off my back - - but do you think I could convince her to do the same when it’s for another big project in the future that isn’t hers?

Nah, I didn’t think so!

    Congrats on the new projects!

I think it’s great that she gave you the day off with pay - - let her know I’d like next Tuesday off with pay! *giggle*

I know the projects will turn out awesome - - as your work always is :)

    Have fun!
