Teachers let the monkeys out

on: Jun/13/07 and its been viewed 1,492 times

School’s Out… and parents everywhere are already counting down the days until the start of the new school year in September!

I work from home, and normally the kids are up and out of the house by 6:30 AM. Now? They are home. They usually head out around noon and hang out with their friends.

I had an interesting conversation with my teenaged son today. I’ll let you imagine what my response was when he wandered into my office at 12:30 PM this afternoon, looking all sleepy and grumpy, and asked me this question:

Is it your habit to wake everyone in the house with your music?

This he said at 12:30 - hahaha! What would YOUR response be?

    Hey Lisa –

I can commiserate. Our kids are younger, but today was last day of school, and the “what should we do nows?’ started about 15 minutes after school let out. Have plans to make it a great summer, but trying hard to teach the kids that every minute doesn’t have to be some big planned activity and “boredom” is entirely self-inflicted.

Tim - I can remember those younger years like it was yesterday. The summer vacations were a bit more painful during those years… but somehow, more fun! :)

These days, my kids don’t want to hang out with me at the park anymore.

Oh, I would have waited my entire lifetime to utter these words to such a child (being a child of the 70s myself):

If it’s too loud, you’re too old!

    :-)

I’m just happy that I can still remember those days! I’m also old enough to dread them when the mite goes to school in a few years. Barely three years old and he’s already reasoning too much. The other night when Daddy wanted to relax on the deck with a beer and his book, he wanted to “drive” something. After being told no we can’t drive the lawnmower around the yard, no we can’t take the skid loader out to grade the driveway he told me that Mommy wanted to park her truck where mine is so we should drive that to where Mommy normally parks. Damn kid!
