SXSW - See You There?

South By Southwest Interactive Conference 2008, Austin Texas, WordPress For Dummies Book SigningIn 2006, I was fortunate enough to be asked to speak on a discussion panel about blog design at the South by Southwest Interactive ‘06 conference (SXSWi). I had great fun and met some really cool people. I, unfortunately, did not make the SXSW conference in 2007.

This year, however, I will be attending SXSW Interactive 2008 in March and am fortunate, once again, to be scheduled for a presentation of WordPress For Dummies, followed by a book signing at the SXSW Bookstore on Tuesday March 11th. The time is still to be determined.. if you’re going and are interested, let me know and I’ll keep you updated w/ details as I learn them. (Big thanks to Hugh Forrest for sticking with me and helping me iron out the details)

Funny thing about book signings.. unless you’re Stephen King, or someone of equal notoriety - I always imagined book signings to be something like: *crickets* *crickets* *sip coffee* *more crickets*

Prove me wrong and stop by if you happen to be going to SXSW this year - - I might hand out lollipops, or something. Even if you aren’t interested in WordPress For Dummies.. I’ll be at the conference from March 7th through the 11th.. if you’re planning to attend - I hope to see you there.

I found you while tracking SXSW on twitter. I’ll be at SXSWi for the first time this year and I hope to make your presentation — wordpress rocks. Good luck.

Still so proud of you for taking yourself and your biz to new levels, you never cease to be a source of inspiration to the little people. :x

Doubting you’ll hear any crickets, though - I am wondering how long it’ll take this year for you to leave your room. ;)

Hey there Lisa. Good luck at the conference. I know you’ll do well.

Here’s my WordPress question for today. For some reason when I click on “save and continue editing” it won’t keep my paragraph spacing. Sometimes it looks like it does and it will randomly save it correctly but if I continue writing and saving it removes the coding and keeps everything as one big paragraph.

When I click on the “code” tab there is no code. It looks just like the “visual” tab. It’s completely random as to whether it wants to work or not. What do I need to do here?

My YouTube embeds don’t show up anymore either, only the code that I paste in.

    Thanks…..Martin

Oh yeah, same problem when I click preview. It merges everything into one fat paragraph.:((

Martin - are you writing your blog posts in a text editor on your Mac and then copying and pasting it into WordPress.. or are you typing your blog posts directly into WordPress? If you are, sometimes there are hidden characters within the text that are orphaned from your text editor that tend to muck up the formatting of your post in WordPress.

Looking at the source code of one of your posts shows:

    < p><span style="font-family: Times; line-height: normal" class="Apple-style-span"></span>
    < p style="padding: 0.5em; background-color: #ffffff; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman',Times,serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.3em; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal">I&#8217;m proud of myself for

Lots of embedded, inline styles in there.

Try just typing the post into WordPress.

The Visual text editor is buggy when it comes to entering code - - even if you use the code tab, I have found. I’ve always resorted to turning off the Visual text editor to insert things like videos. (Turn it off under Users/Your Profile) - - having the Visual text editor on treats the code as text and does not execute it as code.

No, I’m typing it in directly on WordPress like always. It seems like it would flicker between the visual and code tabs and when I clicked the code tab to see what might be going on there was no code there. Just text like on the visual tab where I normally type.

And, usually when you click the code tab it shows the code that WP has generated after you have saved. When I saw that it looked exactly like the visual tab I knew I had a problem.

I’ll try the users/profile fix adjustment and see if that helps.

    hello Lisa,

I ran across your name on a registrant search for SXSWi 2008. I was at last years SXSWi and it was a blast. Met alot of new friends. Unfortunately, I didnt come across anyone from Wisconsin! As a fellow Wisconsinite (Milwaukee), I’ll have to stop in on your presentation and say hello. I’m looking forward to this conference; anyone in the web industry needs to go to it.

    Brian
