I was listening to talk radio on my drive in between patient’s yesterday. I listened to one the speakers at the anti-war rally held Saturday in DC. Her name is Peta Lindsay - the student coordinator for ANSWER (Act Now To Stop War and End Racism)…I’m snipping here, because most of her speech is - aside from shreakingly loud, well - it’s mostly just babble…but here she’s speaking against against America on an anti-war platform:
“[snip]…As they plunder our social programs, take away our rights and force millions of people into devastation - I ask, ‘What do they care about freedom?’. I stand here before you as a new generation of anti-war activists to say that we will not let them carry out this war…we will not let them send our brothers and sisters to kill and be killed in the name of a freedom we have never known.”
*Cough* - what about the freedom to stand in front of a crowd of activists and scream your head off about the freedom that you have never known? Does this girl have any idea what would happen if someone tried doing something like this in Iraq - or any other dictator-ruled country?? The consequences of standing up and spewing hatred toward one’s government and their leaders? Oh, I think Peta Lindsay knows full well the freedoms for which our troops fight for. She realized them fairly well on Saturday when she stood and protested - - ain’t that the beauty of living in a democracy? She can spew - then grab a latte on the way home and catch some slouch time on the couch without worrying about regime forces that will come and huff n’ puff and blow her house down. She realizes and utilizes that freedom, quite well.
I found a statement on a web site that offers a rather unique solution - - he took awhile to get to the point, but I’m posting it here because I find it a good question. If we should be protecting Saddam and his forces - - and at the same time we are blasting people like Bush and Blair - - then all those for regime change here in the US of A please call in all those Iraqi consultants to see if we can get ourselves a dictatorship here at home?
