I love those moments where children give you the chance to educate them on things they won’t ever learn in classroom. I had “I’m-Sounding-Like-My-Mother” moments today when my son looked at me and said:
(watching the televised procession of President Reagan’s body from his home) “Look at that, Mom - they closed the highway. What’s the big deal? Why inconvienence so many people because one old guy died?”
I relish those moments. The neatest thing about it is that he’s interested in the answer and asks more and more questions about why and when and who and where. Our conversation went for at least an hour after his initial question. The conversation encompassed the Cold War, Russia, the Arms Race, Reagan’s Tax Cut, why the liberals didn’t like Reagan - and why they don’t like George W. Bush today.
He walked away from it with one comment…. “Neat.”
Yea - Reagan was pretty neat.

I think it’s great for those who young, like Ben, to take such an interest - - he’s mature beyond his age and wise beyond his years

Briefly, More Reagan (Can You Tell He’s My Hero?)
Quick, go here and read the anecdote about a mom, her son, and meeting Reagan after his death….
