Neil The Nerd

I have a thing for this guy. I don’t know what he’s talking about - - a nerd being shunned by cheerleaders.

Pfft. I was a cheerleader. I was a Pom Pom girl. I had the lead in all the school plays and musicals. I did the solos in all the school concerts. Varsity swim team. Varsity Track & Field.

And guess what? I loved nerds then - - and I love ‘em now. Go figure.

Oh, but I do know what he is talking about. One of the cruelest jokes I recall being played on me in high school was that one of the “friends” of a varsity cheerleader called me up (and I was but a simple freshman), pretended to be her, and said that she really wanted to go out with me, but that I would have to ask her out in public.

That was one sucker bet that I just didn’t take. But to know that I was going to be the butt of a joke, and perhaps the lead-in to that girl being the butt of a joke (REALLY? A FRESHMAN NERD asked HER out?!?) really leads you to know how high up the ladder you really are.

Not that it deterred me. I later got turned down six times trying to find a date to homecoming.

    *sigh* Those weren’t the days.

    Persistence is a virtue, Mickey.

I always dated nerds in high school. Something about that obscure crowd that drew me in.

Certainly it is. I managed to survive high school.

My high school/college biology teacher (our AP science class got to take it for dual credit) once told me that women in college valued brains a bit more. And was he ever right. I finally got to discover girls when I was a freshman.

I don’t long for a return to high school, but I wouldn’t mind redoing a bit of college!

I *am* a nerd, but I prefer to think of myself as a non-conformist… ;-)

ooh, I am a long time nerd lover. In fact, I just went to a friends graduation party at a neighborhood bar wearing my “I Love Nerds” shirt (’cause he is one). I have never gotten so much attention - that’s the most popular shirt I’ve ever worn!

Of course, I have had no luck convincing my high school age nieces to go for the geek/nerd types [sigh] maybe they’ll get it by college…

I was a nerd in high school; I still am, though the braces came off ten years ago and I now wear contacts (fortunately I haven’t had a pimple since I was 15!). High school sucked, but unfortunately there were no cheerleads at my school (inner city NYC high school); their presence would have made high school so much sweeter. I absolutely looooove cheerleaders…always have & always will! I hope I marry one someday. I always cringe when my fellow nerds insult cheerleaders. I carry a flame in my heart for all you pom-pom shakers. :)
