Love/Hate

on: Oct/1/04 and its been viewed 818 times

I have a well defined love/hate relationship with my computer. On one hand, I love the thing. It’s my greatest hobby from talking with my friends online, keeping in touch with family and friends via email, running my business, keeping me organized and teaching me new things. On the other hand – it’s the dependence issue, so when things go wrong . . I begin to really realize how very dependent I am upon this machine.

It’s a bit disconcerting.

I have a great set up. Chris set me up with a very kick ass machine for Christmas last year – from my LCD Flat screen monitor, to my graphics card, processor and sound system – the whole package is probably more than I know what to do with, I’m sure. But, the time has come for me to reformat and rebuild because it’s glitchy. (ok, ok – i know – - for all you penguin linux geeks reading, I’ve already heard it… ‘get yourself a REAL os’).

I’m not sure when I’m going to do the rebuild – but I have to do it soon. I’m trying to figure when I’m going to have time to do it between all the client work I have going at the moment. Plus, Blogs About is moving and growing quite a lot – and we’re working on rolling out new specials and affiliating ourselves with some larger companies, that we are currently negotiating with, that will enable us to offer our clients (old and new) many more and exciting options. (We always stay on the ‘up and up’ when it comes to licensing rules – so it’s a work in progress, but look for exciting new roll outs!)

At some point – I just have to take a day and do the rebuild on my system – - otherwise it’s going to make all my other stuff impossible to accomplish. I can’t decently do all of this work on my laptop or my blackberry wireless (and yes, UG, it’s BLACKberry, not BLUEberry lol). So, time to schedule myself a day to reformat and rebuild. I might as well write the days on pieces of paper and put them in a hat, then pull one out. No day is a good day for me to be without my beloved desktop machine – - but it’s a definite MUST at this point.

Have you considered getting a second machine? you can use the same monitor, Keyboard, mouse etc. then you could rebuild on the fly… just a thought

I was just talking to a friend, who’s not really a friend, because we’ve never met except via blogs … um, anyway, we were emailing (so not really talking) about how we’re so dependent on our computers and Internet. That even we’re pretending to have lives and be out and about our minds are thinking about getting online and checking email/blogs/etc. Scary, really. How most of our world is contained inside a little box.

Get a third machine! … Wait, heh, nevermind. =D That’s just me.

I have a few programs that keep me from having to reformat almost ever… They keep my computer at about 95% performance at the worst of times. I love them. =D
