I Miss the Noise

on: Feb/12/07 and its been viewed 982 times

Seeing the title of this post, you’d think it was a follow up to my last post. Noise appears to be my topic du jour. Again, this time it is the lack of noise in regards to my brand new keyboard.

See, I buy keyboards like some people buy milk. Regularly. I’m a spiller.

Hi, my name is Lisa and I’m a spiller (Hiiiiii, Lisaaaaaa)

I spill all sorts of stuff on my keyboards. Mainly, coffee. I’ve been known to spill water, soda, milk, tea and once, I even dumped a burning candle over and covered my keys in melted wax.

Did I mention I’m a klutz, too. Yep.

ergonomic, split keyboard, MicrosoftI’m also one of those freaky people who needs to have one of those ergonomic, split keyboards. These things are not so easy to find these days. The last time I went to my local Office Max, they had zero. Not a one. I searched all over that day and couldn’t find ONE split keyboard. I just can’t use the regular ones anymore!

Anyways, I digress. A few days ago is when I spilled the candle on my keyboard. As you know, I’m in the middle of writing this book - so, yea.. my keyboard has attached itself to my hands and has become an appendage at this point. I headed over to Office Max and was thrilled to find a split keyboard on the shelf. Just ONE - so I nabbed it!

I was also pretty pleased to find out that Microsofts extended warranty allows for accidental spillage - so for the next three years, if I spill (and you KNOW I will) - I can return it and get a new one for no charge. They were thinking of me, I just know it.

I get it home. Unpack it. Plug it in and start typing away. Immediately, I notice that it makes no noise. Not even the faintest of clicks when I hit the keys. It has a very soft touch. As far as keyboards go, it’s very comfortable - but it doesn’t make any noise!

This is really bothering me. Almost like.. if there is no noise, then there should be no output. But there is output - but no noise!

I’m sure I’ll get used to this - but its seriously bothering me to no end. It’s like eating potato chips without the crunch. Still tastes as good, but somehow, just not as satisfying.

Ohhhh! I love split keyboards, too, but had to go back to a regular one because I like no noise with my keyboards. I may have to check this one out. Does it have any USB ports on it?

Nope - no USB on this one. I can live with that — I can’t live without the noise, tho!!

Tell ya what.. why don’t you come over here and sit next to me while I type. You can just sit there saying “Click, Click, Clickety Clack” everytime I hit the keys? Deal? :-b

FYI - I think that is ALL Target carries. We were looking at keyboards and mice this weekend.

If we had a Target out here in the middle of nowhere, that would be great! Although, I think there is one about 30 mins south of here… I’ll have to keep that in mind the next time I spill ;)
