No, I didn’t die or drop off the face of the earth, or anything quite so dramatic. I have, however, been away from my computer pursuing other, non-electronic forms of entertainment. (yes, yes - in between my work responsibilties I do try to step away from the computer. Just because I’m not blogging about work doesn’t mean I’m not working - just wanted to clarify that for a few folks)
It took about 3 full days, but I now have a brand new vegetable garden in the yard We found a perfect direct-sunlight part of the yard that exists between our two apple trees and started digging. We loosened up the grass and then tilled it all up. When done, we removed the top 3 inches of soil and then tilled in manure - - so to say that I was in deep shit all week is no exaggeration. We ended up with a 15 foot by 12 foot garden that we soon found STILL wasn’t big enough, after getting everything planted in there! I need another ten feet, at LEAST:
The yummy edibles soon to be overflowing our harvest baskets? Beefsteak Tomatoes, Roma Tomatoes, Cherry Tomatoes (we like tomatoes, see.), Green Beans, Green Onions, Lettuce, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Green Peppers and Cucumbers.
What I didn’t have room for - so I planted them in containers near the house: Basil, Catnip, Parsley, Chives, Garlic Chives, Strawberries and Grape Tomatoes.
I probably planted too much and will have to put up a produce stand at the end of the driveway and put my kids to work selling tomatoes and cucumbers before they go bad.

I love your garden. I dream of the day when I can have one of those again. For now, I’m doing what you’re doing for the overflow — stuff in containers, that’s all I’ve got room for. Better than nothing, but no produce stand for me.

Ya know, I get myself into deep shit all the time - - only this time it was legit!
I’ve been wanting a veg. garden for years. Either I didn’t have time for it, or didn’t have room for it. This time, I have the room - - and can milk the time outta my day if I really concentrate.
I figure? If it doesn’t go over well (i.e. I neglect it and have dead plants stuck in cow manure at the end of the summer) - I can just throw grass seed over the top of it and pretend it never happened (i.e. delete this post and deny it to the ends of the earth!)
Want some cucumbers and tomatoes?

Looks great! I still haven’t had time to do anything, hopefully once we get into the new house it’ll be a little easier to deal with my green thumb. For now though I just have my portable garden of house plants *chuckle*

Love your garden! I hope you get lots of juicy, homegrown tomatoes. You know the saying: two things you can’t buy — true love and homegrown tomatoes.
My daughter picked some cherry tomatoes from our garden last night — a little early. They were mostly green. But she was so proud. We eat them by the tons all summer. It’s the only way I’ve found to get my kids to eat their veggies!

MMMMM! I’ll be lining up at the end of your driveway for those tomatoes! I would love a veggie garden out here, but our soil is so poor that I would have to actually BUY topsoil. I’m not too keen on buying dirt. I have a few little container gardens for my herbs and they do well..I guess I’ll just have to be satisfied with that and drool over your pics as your veggies come in (hint, hint)!

Looks like a great start. We finally figured where we’re going to move mrs. Knight’s garden, but I keep forgetting to bring the big tiller in to have it looked over before I tear up the area with the skid loader and planer. We should have stuff growing really great in there since it was used as cow pasture for many years…
