Holiday Favorites

Favorite Holiday Movie: A Christmas Story

Favorite Holiday Drink: A toss up between Eggnog with a bit-o Brandy and some nutmeg - - and a nice warm, toasty Tom & Jerry.

Favorite Holiday Song: O Holy Night - kind of an odd song for an atheist to have on her list of favorites, however that song takes me back to my childhood - so the ties are there. Plus, if sung correctly - - it is extraordinarily beautiful.

Favorite Holiday Sweets: Peppermint Bark

Favorite Holiday Tradition: As children, we always gathered around in the living room on Christmas Eve and we were able to open just one present before going to sleep so Santa could come down our chimmney. It was the teaser for the morning to come.

Favorite Holiday Food: Mom always, always, always — and still does, makes homemade Caramel Pecan Rolls on Christmas morning. As a kid, it was great waking up to those ooooey gooooey yummies and enjoying them with a piping hot mug of cocoa. As an adult, it’s a challenge to get to her house early enough to enjoy them straight from the oven and before my hog of an older brother has eaten all the most gooey middle pieces!

Favorite Holiday Decoration: Doing the house up in lights - - always the crystal white lights. We don’t do colors at my house - the front of the house shines in white with red bows stuck here and there for a bit of color. I take that back - - this year we did color. On the edge of our property we have a long line of evergreen trees — the front three are decorated in red, white and blue (pictures on the blog are coming soon).

Favorite Holiday Scene: Seeing the excitement in the kids eyes as they are waking me as early as possible on Christmas morning. They are wide awake - and I’m barely alive. Oh how they hate waiting until I’ve made that first cup of coffee - - sorry kids, but it’s a necessity! As they’ve gotten older - it is kind of bittersweet to see some of that innocent excitement gone as they know it was just mom who ate the cookies on the plate left by the fireplace for Santa. 10 years ago it was, “Do you think Santa liked them, Mom?” These days it’s, “Mom, did you really eat them all??” *burp*

Favorite Holiday Thought: That this year, finally - after long last and many years of struggle and frustration . . our family is in a really good spot. The kids are growing up to be such beautiful and smart people. My folks are healthy and happy. Most of all - - the addition of Chris to our house this year is what I am most thankful for. I feel like my life is now complete, in ways it never really has been before. We’ve always been a pretty happy and healthy family of three - - but having him around just seals the hole that has been there for quite sometime (my ex - their father - split in 1992). Happiness is the theme for this year!

I think that’s it for my Holiday Favorites list — if I think of more, I’ll add ‘em later!

I’m with you on A Christmas Story, eggnog, presents on Christmas Eve, and white lights.

I stray on the rest. I hate Christmas music, sweets, Christmas morning, and family holidays.

I saw this list over on Lisa’s blog Just A Girl In The World and loved it. I decided to do the same and I even added a few. I would be curious to see everyone else’s answers as well…
