As the end of a particularly chaotic and busy week came to a close – I found out, with less than a weeks notice, I’m doing Thanksgiving dinner here at the (Sabin-)Wilson home on Thursday. In years past, we always go to my folks home for Thanksgiving – the reason for the change is a long story that I won’t go into. It’s times like these that I wish I could just wriggle my nose, like Samantha from Bewitched, and make an entire Thanksgiving dinner appear in my kitchen – without any prepapration, planning or preparing.
*nose wiggle*
But, Samantha I am not. So, we’re looking at turkey, stuffing, potatoes, veggies, cranberries, apple pie, pumpkin pie and pecan pie – at the very least. Chris and I talked about it and decided we’re going to deep fry that turkey. I’ve never had deep-fried turkey, but have heard it’s wonderful. Chris and my son are in charge of the turkey and my daughter is going to help me with the rest. Considering that turkey takes a few days to thaw – I guess I should go to the store and get one, hey? I’m running out of turkey-time and in a turkey-panic! Wish me luck!
What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
Oooh! Deep fried turkey is effing awesome! My mother-in-law’s brother always deep fries a turkey or two to bring to Thanksgiving dinner…er…lunch.
I don’t know if we’re driving all the way down there for Thanksgiving this year, though…I just don’t feel like spending 3 hours in the car for 3 hours of food and have to turn around and come right back since Kyle has to work the next day. :-s
Am I the only remaining person in the world who has never had deep fried turkey? After I posted this.. three people emailed me to tell me how great it is.. now you. I’m feeling like I’ve been missing out! lol
Oh.. and I don’t blame you for not wanting to make the drive… ESPECIALLY the drive back with a tummy full of Thanksgiving… ugh!
That’s exactly what I told Kyle – I don’t want to have to spend 3 hours in his bumpy-ride car after stuffing myself until I’m miserable (which I always do…even when I say I won’t)!

! You will LOVE it! We don’t do it regularly because, as you mentioned, it is a pain. But it does taste delish.
I’m in a similar way as you – due to some changes last minute, I found out that I’m hosting Thanksgiving here in my apartment. Granted, it will only be my parents, my brother, and my boyfriend, but still, I’ve NEVER hosted a holiday, so this is a big deal for me. I’m excited :d
I hate to be different but I had a deep fried turkey coupla years back and I wasn’t too hip on it. But each their own I guess and maybe mine just wasn’t done right. Good luck with it and Happy Thanksgiving. I’m going to spend my time with my two cutie petutie granddaughters (2 and 4):)

I’ve only had deep fried turkey once, but it was pretty darn tasty.
For us, we kept Thanksgiving completely open because the baby is coming by the end of the month and we weren’t sure if we were going to spend it at the hospital or not (there was a chance she was going to be induced today). Personally, I’m pretty sure it has a little time left. If it were close it would have made its presence known last night when I went about an hour away drinking with a friend…
Oh, and now we’re headed to my parents tomorrow so we don’t have to travel the hour and a half to hers. I’m even getting away without having to cook anything even though I have a pumpkin mascarpone pie recipe I really want to make (or there’s the bourbon sweet potato pie with chantilly cream). Instead Grandma’s going to make her pumpkin pie with the mothball flavored crust along with probably some inedible jello salad with carrots and celery in it and mayonnaise on top…
Astro, my thoughts are definitley with you, Mrs. Knight and Astromite over the next few weeks as you welcome in yet another Astrotmite2! How exciting
That pumpking pie recipe sounds phenomenal.. I wish you would have popped in here a few hours ago, I just pulled my pumpkin pie out of the oven – I may have wanted to try your recipe… maybe for Christmas?

I just pulled the pumpkin pie out of the oven and have about 30 more minutes to let the peacan pie cook. Then I need to put the apple crumb pie in and I’ll be all done with pies (and will move onto setting up your new design this evening) – I’m on a roll.. W00t!
So how was the Deep Fried turkey?
Gary – the deep fried turkey was amazing! I just loved it and don’t think I’ll ever go back to oven roasted ever again. Yum!
I had to try the pumpkin mascarpone pie, so I made it today (along with roasted asparagus and blue fin sea bass topped with tapenade and roasted red, yellow, and orange peppers). It’s a great pie. It’s not so dense like the normal pumpkin pie, and has almost a custard texture to it. The mascarpone really lightens it up and also gives it a touch of richness. Best of all, it’s easy as can be (if you have an electric mixer, without one it’d be a little more work). The only downside to it that I can see is if you want to do the pie cutting cheat beforehand where you flip it upside down, cut the pieces, and then put it back in the pan you don’t have a chance. I’m not sure there’s a way to get nice neat pieces out of the pie pan with this pie.
