A Poll

1. Where were you when you heard that Ronald Reagan died?

I was at home watching the news when it was announced. I was expecting it that day because earlier news reports indicated that Reagan wasn’t doing well and had taken a turn for the worse. They said, at that time, that his death was not imminent - however, maybe it’s my hospice background and working with Alzheimer’s patients in their last hours…they way they described his condition, I just was expecting it to happen that day.

2. Where were you on September 11, 2001?

On the highway, in my car on the way to work. I was listening to my usual AM talk radio station when I heard about the first plane. Still on the highway when I heard about the second and pulled over to the shoulder of the road when I heard about the third plane. Not sure why I pulled over. I just couldn’t believe my ears. I wasn’t the only one who pulled over….there were dozens who did. It was eerie.

3. Where were you when you heard that Princess Diana died?

I was awake, believe it or not. Couldn’t sleep that night and had CNN (gasp!) on my television. I waited for the repeat of the story - because I wasn’t quite sure I’d heard it right the first time.

4. Do you remember where you were when you heard Kurt Cobain had died?

Insignificant event. Nope.

5. Take one for The Gipper: What’s your favorite flavor of jelly bean?

Bubblegum. The light pink color.

6. Where were you when Magic Johnson announced he was retiring from the NBA due to AIDS?

Absolutely no clue. I remember the reports on TV, so I’d have to say I was home.

7. Where were you when Reagan was shot?

March 30, 1981 - I was in 8th grade. They announced it over the loud speaker and then sent us home. I was pretty young - but I remember the picture on the front page of our newspaper. The look on his face was one of shock and wonder…almost as if he were silently asking …”What happened?” and then…”Why would anyone do such a thing?” I remember the look on his face made me very sad that day.

8.Where were you when the Challenger exploded?

January 28, 1986. I was a Senior in High School and we were all in the auditorium watching the Challenger takeoff on a large screen. Our whole senior class was in attendance. It was exciting! Until the moment the Challenger exploded - there was utter silence…then the auditorium was filled with questions fueled by fear. It was horrible - I remember the helpless feeling that one has of just watching such an event. Thousands of miles away in a high school auditorium…my thoughts were, “What can I do??” in a panic…then the realization of, “Nothing.” It was bad.

9. Where were you when the 0J verdict was announced?

Doing something more interesting, I’m sure.

This poll was nabbed from Laura.

    1. Where were you when you heard that Ronald Reagan died?

Wrestled the TV remote from the kids and turned off the Cartoon network to see pictures of Mr Raygun and sad music, gave up on compelling TV for the night and gave the Kids the Remote back.

    2. Where were you on September 11, 2001?

In the Barber shop when the first plane hit and in the grocery store when the second one hit and we all realised it was not an accident.

    3. Where were you when you heard that Princess Diana died?

I was awake too (in the UK) I remember the broadcaster coming on looking desheveled and delivering the news. I was very sad for the boys, it must have been tough on them, but on a personal level, I never really cared for her in the first place.

    4. Do you remember where you were when you heard Kurt Cobain had died?

    Nope. but I laughed, POS.

    5. Take one for The Gipper: What’s your favorite flavor of jelly bean?

Top Bannana but I suspect there is more to this question than I comprehend…:???:

    6. Where were you when Magic Johnson announced he was retiring from the NBA due to AIDS?

    Who?

    7. Where were you when Reagan was shot?

Err, I don’t remember, but I was probably asleep, I guess I found out the next day and he was already stable.

8.Where were you when the Challenger exploded?

On the bus on the way home from school, we heard it on the radio… by the time we got home I remeber already hearing several jokes, pretty pathetic looking back but we were high school kids and in a different country so I don’t think we had the same kind of connection with those involved.

    9. Where were you when the 0J verdict was announced?

Crossing off one more thing from the “money can’t buy you” list.
